5 Reasons Why You Need Eco-Drive Systems for Haul Truck Fleet

Remote Energy’s Eco-Drive product range significantly reduces unnecessary fuel burn of mobile fleet assets (such as haul trucks) whilst at idle, thereby reducing carbon emissions. During idle time, the Eco-Drive allows the main engine to shut down for extended periods, whilst still providing sufficient energy provision for continuous operation of DC air conditioning/heating systems and other critical operating loads.

1. Carbon Emission Reduction
Industrial emissions targets are now in place in countries throughout the world, with miners and OEMs leading the charge to develop solutions that will significantly reduce emissions, on the path towards achieving ‘net zero’. Remote Energy has sought to address one key area of contributors to emissions in the mining sector; scope 1 emissions from load and haul mobile fleets.

2. Increase Operating Shifts Without Increasing Your Fleet
Unnecessary engine idling for haul truck cycles not only results in excess fuel consumption but also leads to loss of productivity and tonnes per machine hour. An increase in idle time also contributes unproductive engine hours towards the service interval hours count, thus, resulting in more unproductive services per period and less operating shifts.
The Eco-Drive allows mines to increase their annual payload by eliminating non-productive idle time from the total time between service intervals – increasing the capacity of your existing fleet.

3. Extend Truck Engine Service Intervals
With the Eco-Drive, main engine idle times are reduced, resulting in an extension in real time between services Removing unnecessary idle can save at least 4.2 services per haul truck every year. The flow on benefits includes reduced maintenance costs per period and overall extended asset life by less engine run time.

4. Reduced Main Engine Fuel Consumption
The engine in haul truck is seriously oversized for the menial yet critical task of running the air conditioning system and keeping the truck batteries charged. Yet this is the primary task of the engine when at idle. This is where the Eco-Drive system comes into its own, as a power unit perfectly sized for the job. The reliable CAT C0.5 engine in the Eco-Drive consumes just 1.2 litres per hour, when compared to the main engine 25-35l/ hour. When this differential is applied against all addressable idle time, the fuel savings can be very significant.

5. Maintain Operator Comfort and Safety
As an anti-idle solution for haul truck fleets, the Eco-Drive maintains operator comfort during tough working conditions by DC air conditioning/heating systems whilst the truck’s main engine is at idle. There is no need for operators to shut off trucks or exit the truck at any extended wait periods.
